Licensed as a general dentist, Dr. Murphy focuses his practice on cosmetic dentistry and dental implants. He particularly enjoys working with porcelain veneers and no-prep porcelain Vivaneers. “Patients love it when we can make a beautiful smile for them without having to trim off any of their natural teeth,” Dr. Murphy shared.
After graduating from Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Illinois, Dr. Murphy attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Illinois, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1977. He attended dental school at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Illinois. In 1980, he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
Dr. Murphy recently finished a one-and-a-half-year orthodontic course, learning some of the newest techniques in braces. He was credited with 86 hours of continuing education from this course. Dr. Murphy has been offering orthodontic treatment to his patients since 1981 and enjoys attending continuing education courses to learn the latest dental techniques.
Dr. Murphy has attended several Invisalign courses, gaining knowledge in the diagnosis, application, and implementation of Invisalign orthodontic treatment. Unlike conventional braces, which require bothersome metal brackets and wires, Invisalign is a virtually invisible alternative to straightening teeth. Dr. Murphy participated in the continuing education courses necessary to receive Invisalign I and II Certification.
Dr. Murphy has attended over 190 hours of continuing education focusing on the latest techniques and technology in implant dentistry. He recently attended 2 seminars on the technique of minimally invasive implant placement. With this technique, there is very little bleeding, normally no sutures are needed, and the patient has very little tenderness after the procedure.
